Manitoba issued 209 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence to immigration candidates in a draw held June 7.

The invitations, known as Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs), went to candidates in the Skilled Workers in Manitoba, Skilled Workers Overseas and International Education streams.

Invitations issued in the June 7 draw broke down as follows:

  • Skilled Workers in Manitoba: 121 LAAs | Minimum score: 542
  • Skilled Workers Overseas: 60 LAAs | Minimum score: 701
  • International Education Stream: 28 LAAs issued.

Candidates who receive an LAA have 60 days to submit a complete application to the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP), which allows the province to nominate economic-class immigration candidates for Canadian permanent residence.

Manitoba is an increasingly popular destination for newcomers to Canada and last year issued a record 5,207 nominations for Canadian permanent residence, of which 65 per cent went to candidates in the Skilled Workers in Manitoba Stream and 33 per cent went to Skilled Workers Overseas candidates.

The  is open to eligible temporary foreign workers and international student graduates who are currently working in Manitoba and have been offered a permanent, full-time job with their Manitoba employer.

The lets the MPNP nominate eligible immigration candidates living outside Canada who have an established connection to Manitoba such as the support of family members or friends, previous education or work experience in the province, or an invitation under one of the MPNP’s .

All 60 Skilled Workers Overseas candidates who received an LAA on June 7 were invited directly through a Strategic Recruitment Initiative.

The  provides three pathways to permanent residence for eligible international graduates of Manitoba post-secondary institutions.

First step: Express your interest

In order to be considered for a provincial nomination from Manitoba, the first step is to submit an (EOI) to the MPNP.

Candidates are given a score that determines their rank in the pool of candidates based on the answers they provide in their EOI.

The highest-scoring candidates are then issued LAAs through draws that are held at least once a month.

The MPNP said 18 of the 209 LAAs issued on June 7 went to candidates in the federal , which manages the pool of candidates for three of Canada's main economic-class immigration categories — the ,ÌýÌý²¹²Ô»åÌý.

Express Entry candidates must register a separate Expression of Interest with the MPNP and have a job seeker validation code as well as experience in an occupation on Manitoba’s , among other eligibility requirements.

Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination are awarded an additional 600 points toward their (CRS) score and are effectively fast-tracked for an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
