Manitoba issues 450 invitations to skilled workers, international graduates

Manitoba invited 450 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence in an Expression of Interest draw held June 20.聽

The invitations, known as Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs), went to candidates in the Skilled Workers in Manitoba, Skilled Workers Overseas and International Education streams.

All three streams are part of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP), which allows the province to nominate immigration candidates with skills required by local employers and the ability to settle quickly and establish themselves economically.

LAAs issued in the June 20 draw broke down as follows:

  • Skilled Workers Overseas: 323
  • Skilled Workers in Manitoba: 101
  • International Education Stream: 26

This latest draw brings the total number of LAAs issued to skilled worker candidates in 2019 to 4,979.

Express Entry candidates invited

Manitoba said 133 of the LAAs issued in the June 20 draw went to candidates in the federal with a job seeker validation code and experience in an occupation on Manitoba鈥檚 .

Express Entry candidates who obtain a provincial nomination receive an additional 600 points toward their (CRS) score, effectively guaranteeing an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Other Skilled Workers Overseas who received an LAA in the June 20 draw had the following criteria:

  • Had a close relative residing in Manitoba or past education or work experience in Manitoba;
  • Had at least 6 months of recent experience in an occupation on Manitoba鈥檚 In-demand Occupations list; and
  • a minimum language proficiency of CLB/NCLC 5 unless work experience is primarily in a regulated occupation (minimum CLB/NCLC 7) or a compulsory trade (CLB/NCLC 6).

Another 35 Skilled Workers Overseas LAAs went to candidates invited directly through one of the MPNP鈥檚 Strategic Recruitment Initiatives.

The 聽is open to eligible temporary foreign workers and international student graduates who are currently working in Manitoba and have been offered a permanent, full-time job with their Manitoba employer.

Expression of Interest

Completing an聽 (EOI) is the first required step for most skilled worker candidates who would like to be considered for a provincial nomination from Manitoba.

Candidates provide the required information about their education, work experience, proficiency in English or French and connections to Manitoba, among other details, and are awarded a score based on their answers.

Candidates with the highest scores are invited through regular draws from Manitoba鈥檚 EOI pool.

The minimum score required for an LAA in the June 20 EOI draw was:

  • Skilled Workers in Manitoba: 475
  • Skilled Workers Overseas: 599
    • Strategic Recruitment Initiative candidates: 704
